Material Safety Data Sheet
Current EC regulations controlling dangerous substances and preparations require the chemical industry and/or distributors of these products to draft and update material safety data sheets containing 16 sections. This task assumes technical competence, knowledge of the regulations and a significant amount of time.
EPY® is an indispensable software package for the creation and management of MSDS that provides the following essential functions:- Calculation and automatic production of MSDSs based on the product formula.
- Automatic updates to MSDSs following recipe or regulatory changes.
- Archiving of calculated MSDSs with number and revision date.
- Sending MSDSs to customers based on their purchases.
An automatically calculated MSDS can be manually changed and personalized where this would not compromise its accuracy. The MSDS is then archived and available for reprinting.
The MSDS can be extracted from the archive in Word format for editing and forwarding in electronic format on diskette or CD and via e-mail.Interfaces
EPY® is equipped to exchange data with external software. In particular, the following interfaces are especially useful:
- External Bill of Materials so as to avoid re-entering recipes
- Transport Document management
- to automate sending MSDS
- to automate the printing of tremcards for delivery to the transporter

Accessory modules
The following modules may be useful for automatically producing MSDSs:
- EPY+.FP Automatic Flash Point
- This is a program that is interfaced with the base module and automatically identifies the interval containing the flash point. This allows determination of the relative flammability symbol and the R phrase (R10, R11, R12). The result obtained is clearly approximate by default. This option is especially useful when there are a high number of products or simply in the design phase when the formula that requires a hazard label or MSDS is not yet definitive: in fact, in this case, the result is obtained simply by entering the formula. It is always possible to enter the experimental value.
- EPY+.TRAS Automatic calculation of section 14 of the MSDS (Transport information)
- The program is able to automatically calculate the transport classification of a preparation based on its components. The calculated data is automatically transcribed to section 14 of the MSDS, TRANSPORT INFORMATION, in each of its subsections:
- Road or rail transport (ADR/RID)
- Sea transport (IMO)
- Air transport (IATA)

The same data is also filed to allow its use for the automatic compilation of transport documents, conforming to ADR regulatory requirements.
